The Cayenne models exude one thing above all else: enthusiasm. For life, for the road. Firstly, there’s the Cayenne. A genuine all-rounder for any road and any terrain. Versatile, spacious and dynamic. Designed for everyday challenges – especially those that are far from the ordinary. The basis for this: the 3.6-liter V6 gas engine. An impressive output of 300 hp at 6,300 rpm. With direct fuel injection (DFI), continuously variable valve timing on the inlet and exhaust sides as well as 8-speed Tiptronic S fitted as standard. It’s no wonder that we refer to it as the ‘decathlete’ among sports cars. The Cayenne models: for the short sprint – and for the long distance. For excitement – and relaxation. And for everyday driving that is anything but ordinary.
The Cayenne is at home on any road. Yet it is always willing to explore new territory. When it comes to dynamic driving, everyday practicality or its range of standard equipment. It is a superb athlete capable of an impressive performance in virtually any discipline.
The new engines are packed with technological innovations. The exhaust turbochargers are arranged in a central turbo layout inside the cylinder V. This results in an engine with significantly more compact dimensions, allowing it to be installed in a deeper position inside the vehicle – which lowers the centre of gravity and improves lateral dynamics. The shortened exhaust paths between the combustion chambers and the turbochargers produce a more spontaneous engine response and a faster build-up in power. The new counter-rotating twin-scroll turbochargers deliver high torque at lower engine speeds. They also help to boost the response speed of the engines. As exhaust gases are kept completely separate, the gas columns generated by the individual cylinders are virtually unaffected by their counterparts – a particular advantage in the V8 engine, and a design that also boosts efficiency.
Porsche has developed a completely new generation of drives for the Cayenne, including the eightspeed Tiptronic S automatic transmission – which now delivers an even sportier and more comfortable drive than its predecessor, in line with the characteristics of the new Cayenne. The transmission combines significantly faster shifting speeds with even more comfortable and smooth starting characteristics. It also reduces traction interruption during gear changes. New sun gear and planet gear sets result in a wider gear spread: First gear is now shorter than in the predecessor model, while eighth gear is longer. This approach improves the initial acceleration performance of the Cayenne while also boosting comfort and fuel efficiency.
PTM comprises an active all-wheel drive system with an electronically variable, map-controlled multi-plate clutch, automatic brake differential (ABD) and anti-slip regulation (ASR). The electronically controlled multi-plate clutch helps to ensure optimum distribution of force between the permanently driven rear axle and the front axle. The driving conditions are continuously monitored to enable the system to respond to a variety of situations. During cornering, the required level of engine torque is distributed to the front wheels to provide excellent lateral stability. The result: perfect distribution of drive torque at all times.
Many people dedicate themselves to moving forward, but few leave their mark. Many are full of enthusiasm, but few inspire it in others. How do you recognize the few? Sometimes at first glance. The prowess of the Cayenne SUV is clearly reflected in the design: the front and rear sections are now sharper and even more sophisticated. The bonnet, front wings, main headlights and air intakes lend the car even greater presence. It is impressively athletic and muscular. The precise lines make it evident that this is a sports car with character and stature. The sporty side contouring and wheels with attractive styling serve to emphasize the car’s dynamics. An impression that is confirmed by the daytime running lights featuring four LED spotlights fitted as standard, as well as the LED taillights and integrated tailpipes. Every detail has been used to highlight what matters most to you: the sporting credibility that only a Porsche can offer. That is our design DNA. The result is clear: distinctive appeal. The Cayenne gives the term ‘enthusiasm’ a face.
Excellent illumination of the road thanks to the optimum balance between short and long-distance lighting with side illumination. Due to the similarity in color with daylight and the low light scatter of the LED main headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), the driver’s eyes tire less quickly than with other systems. PDLS adjusts the range of the dipped beam based on driving speed. The dynamic cornering light function swivels the main headlights towards the inside of a bend based on the current steering angle and road speed. The static cornering lights activate the auxiliary headlights in order to illuminate more of the road in tight bends and turns. Bi-Xenon main headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) are available. Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) ia also available with extra safety features. LED technology is used for all functions on the newly designed rear light modules. The high-level third brake light is integrated into the roof spoiler.
The interior of the Cayenne SUV is virtually built around you. Everything you need is within easy reach. Practical and exclusively designed to suit your needs. A typical sports car feature, the rising center console reduces the distance between the steering wheel and the most important vehicle controls. The multifunction sport steering wheel also speaks the language of motorsport. Derived from the 918 Spyder, it is a harmonious blend of high-level ergonomics and pioneering styling. However, the Cayenne concept goes beyond pure sport performance. With the new Porsche Communication Management system (PCM) including navigation module which, with its rimless glass surface, fits perfectly into the center console. Comfort, variability and style: every single detail serves to enhance the overall impression.
The Cayenne Turbo features a new generation of adaptive sports seats that are more sports-carlike than ever before. The seats in the top-of-the-range model are easily recognisable: as in a sports car, the headrests are integrated into the backrests, rather than attached as separate components. Together with the raised side bolsters and the unique stitching on the seat centre, the sports seats not only deliver a sporty look, but score highly in terms of ergonomics, too. The adaptive sports seats come with heating as standard, plus seat ventilation as an additional option. The top-of-the-range seat is standard in the Cayenne Turbo, and available as an option in all other models. If an owner selects the sports seats, the rear seats are finished in the same look, and also receive the raised side bolsters.
With the Porsche Advanced Cockpit, the Cayenne offers a new type of interaction between the driver and vehicle. The system is based on the display and operating concept of the sports car, originally developed for the Panamera and overhauled for use in the Cayenne. The instrument cluster features the traditional Porsche central tachometer flanked by two seven-inch displays. The driver can control all key functions using three core components: The full-HD touch display of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, the multifunction steering wheel to control the on-board computer, and the touch-sensitive Direct Touch Control in the centre console to interact with selected functions.
The braking systems on the Cayenne models offer impressive performance, even when fully laden and with a braked trailer load of up to 3,500 kg.
Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)
Derived from the world of motorsport to make everyday driving even safer: the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is proven on the racetrack and therefore an excellent example of the Porsche philosophy. The key advantage of PCCB is a total weight saving of approximately 50% compared with equivalent cast-iron discs. As well as enhancing performance and fuel economy, the unsprung and rotating masses are lightened. The results: better handling and road-holding plus greater ride comfort.
Lane Departure Warning
Lane Departure Warning uses a camera to detect lane markings on the road. Activated at speeds in excess of 40 mph, it issues an acoustic warning signal if the vehicle is threatening to stray outside the lane.
Lane Change Assist
Lane Change Assist monitors the area behind the vehicle and the blind spot using radar sensors. At speeds above 18 mph, the system alerts the driver of a vehicle in the blind spot or approaching quickly from behind via a visual signal from the exterior mirrors. This enhances comfort, particularly when driving on the motorway. However, Lane Change Assist does not actively intervene in the controlling of the vehicle and can be deactivated at any time.
Porsche supports the driver of the new Cayenne in day-to-day driving with a three-level system of parking assistance systems. The standard front and rear Park Assist provides visual and acoustic information to the driver when manoeuvring and parking. The system uses ultrasonic sensors fitted to the front and rear of the vehicle. Park Assist is optionally available with a reversing camera. This helps with manoeuvring by showing a colour camera image on the PCM screen with dynamic support lines and distances to potential obstacles. Using four individual cameras, the Park Assist system with Surround View calculates a 360° view, which helps with parking and manoeuvring. The resolution of the camera image displayed on the PCM screen has now almost doubled, making the picture significantly sharper.
The system uses a radar sensor in the central air intake to monitor the road up to 650 feet ahead. If you approach another vehicle that is travelling slower than your selected cruising speed, the system slows the engine or gently applies the brakes. This continues until the distance that you have preset is maintained. If heavier braking is required, the driver has to actively intervene. When the vehicle in front decelerates further, adaptive cruise control will continue to reduce your speed – even down to a Stop. When the road ahead is free once more, the car automatically returns to your chosen cruising speed above 18 mph. The integrated Stop & Go function automatically applies the brakes and then drives off again in congested traffic. The integrated Porsche Active Safe (PAS) visually and audibly warns the driver that intervention is necessary in the event of a sudden decrease in distance and briefly tugs on the brakes.
